What's On for Families at the DunsPlayFest

Along with some family friendly performances over the 9 days of DunsPlayFest there is a dedicated Family Day at Duns Castle on Sunday 28th of April.

Promising an array of entertainment and activities to captivate both young and old.

Best of all, it's entirely FREE!


DUNS CASTLE From 12 to 4 pm, the grounds of Duns Castle will come alive with creativity.

Prepare to be amazed by a lineup of talented entertainers.

From stilt walkers to circus performers, there's something for every member of the family.

WHAT'S ON at Duns Castle...

Rowanbank Environmental Arts Hula Hoop workshops for everyone to enjoy, stilt walker & musician.

Hop Scotch Flea Circus

 Experience the magic of a traditional Flea Circus courtesy of Hop Scotch. Prepare to be awed by miniature marvels and whimsical wonders in this charming spectacle.

Borders Youth Theatre

 Immerse yourself in the world of drama with workshops and performances by Borders Youth Theatre. Watch as young talents showcase their skills and transport you to captivating realms of storytelling and imagination.

Spinning Jenny's Circus Skills Step right up and try your hand at circus skills with Spinning Jenny's workshops. From juggling to balancing, discover the thrill of circus performing under the guidance of skilled instructors.

The Little Theatre Come and be inspired by our back stage area full of props and costumes, an opportunity for our younger generation to put on their own plays within our little black box performance space!

During the festival there will be a selection of family friendly events, why don't you join us!

Dance Sunday 28th April at 4:00 PM Join LJ Dance as they take the stage with a mesmerizing display of dance styles. From ballet to contemporary, their performances promise to enchant audiences of all ages.

Story Telling

Saturday 27th at 2pm and 3pm

Mythical stoires of dragons and Caillieach by Katy Swift and Katy Cohen- FREE

Workshop 'Make a Play in an Hour'

MOnday 29 April 4.15-5.30pm - Suitable for age 8+ Come and join us for a crazy hour to write, rehearse and perform your own piece of theatre. A hilarious hour led by Our University Drama Student Team. Come along if you want to perform or be part of a tech team. We have a place for you!!  Places Limited Book Early to avoid disappointment.

Film: Wojtek The Bear Friday 3rd May 4pm

A half hour animated film, A BEAR NAMED WOJTEK is essentially a love story for one’s homeland – an important subject in times of refugees, nationalism and xenophobia. It relates the experience of the Polish people during World War II through the true story of Wojtek and his friend Piotr Prendys, a member of the 22nd Artillery Corps of the 2nd Polish Army.

Followed by a Q&A
