A Haggle of Witches

Duns 1659. Two consecutive years of crop failures, religious fever, rumours, witchcraft, misogyny, money and fear of educated women.

Drop into the mix Alexander Hamilton, accused of murder by witchcraft and self-confessed witch. A pot about to boil over. This is the beginning of Scotland’s darkest period, ‘The Burning Times.’

Kevin Purvis’ first play ‘Borders,’ was performed at last year’s DunsPlayFest. This is Kevin’s second play and is performed as a rehearsed reading.

He has an interest in local history and paganism and witchcraft through the ages. He has combined both interests in this true story. It has taken hours of research time to pull together the thread of this play; the real story being much wider and involving many more people.
